Course content
Terminological definition of health and illness. National Aging Preparation Program. National Action Plan Promoting Positive Aging for the Period 2013-2017. Demographic Aspects of Aging and Aging. Consequences of aging populations. Intergenerational relationships, old man and family. Issues of self-sufficiency and addiction in old age. Health status and issues of polymorbidity in seniors. Comprehensive health and social care for the elderly. Gerontological prevention and ethical care for the elderly. Self image and life satisfaction in old age. The issue of coexistence of three generations. Social exclusion of seniors and their consequences. Preparing for old age in terms of health care, mental wellbeing and social inclusion. Possibilities of psychological activation of seniors. The importance of exercise and the suitability of seniors' physical activities. Influence of Information Technology Development on Life and Education of Senior Citizens. Lifelong learning - forms, means and possible benefits in developing the personality of seniors. Civic Association LIFE 90 and its importance for seniors. Emergency care of Areíon and its supply and the range of users. Senior Clubs - Their Importance and Position in Seniors' Life. Seniors as victims of domestic violence. Senior dependence syndrome. Sexual life in old age and its disorders. Biopsychosocial Issues of Seniors' Involvement in Institutional Care. Risks and negatives of institutional care at present.

Learning outcomes
The main objective of the discipline is the ability to apply theoretical knowledge about health and illness from a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual point of view and a holistic approach to senior citizens, including defining the basic theories of aging and explaining the causes of polymorbidity. An important achievement of the discipline is the application of the principles of active attitude to health in the process of aging, the benefits of lifelong learning and the ability to detect manifestations of ageism in society.
After completing the course students should be able to: - Define basic theories of health and illness, - to define basic theories of aging, - Explain contemporary and historical views on aging and aging, - describe the lifelong learning positives, - to argue the principles of active health attainment in the aging process, - to characterize the physiological and pathological processes of aging both from the somatic and psychological point of view, - to detect and evaluate the manifestations of ageism in society, - to clarify the importance of polymorbidity, - to evaluate the issue of dying and death in contemporary Czech society.
Prerequisites
The discipline is intended for students in the field of Teaching specialized subjects for secondary nursing schools.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Written exam, Seminar Work

The conditions specified by the lecturer at the beginning of the term. Preparation of a seminar work on a given topic in the range of 7 normalized A4 pages including references to the used resources according to ISO 690. In addition, students will place a seminar work in the Portal UP portal.upol.cz in the section "My Study" "Semestral Work". Seminar work is automatically checked in the plagiarism detection system.
