Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to introduce the fundamentals of social and cultural anthropology as a holistic academic discipline, focused on a human, culture, and society, which studies the genesis, development, structure, and functioning of diverse socio-cultural systems in time and space. The emphasis is on studying values, institutions, and customs formed under the influence of a social structure. The focus will also be on studying cultures that are going through changes influenced by specific human nongenetic factors reflected in artifacts, norms, regulations, and shared ideas between members of society. The stated knowledge will be useful for the practice of teachers at medical schools. Firstly for its nursery care part (e.g., in relation to the multicultural/intercultural/transcultural nursery care) and secondly for its health education part, because its paradigm considers the social and cultural contexts of human life (or human lifestyle).
After passing the course, students should be able to: - Explain the basic terminology of social and cultural anthropology, - describe and interpret the main theories of anthropology and the basic methodological procedures typical for social and cultural anthropology, - understand the phenomena of cultural diversity and ethnocentrism. Present arguments in favor of cultural relativism, - present the knowledge of the social interactions in everyday life; - explain the terms conformity and nonconforming behavior; - describe and interpret (from the perspective of social and cultural anthropology) the basic social organizations and systems; - characterize the phenomena of identity in relation to the ethnicity, nation, and nationality in its stable state and through changes; -show the basic knowledge of anthropology of religion; - understand the basics of body anthropology; - apply the knowledge of social and cultural anthropology in particular model situations based on real life experiences of an individual as a member of society and culture related to the student's specialization (e.g., multicultural/intercultural/transcultural nursery care, health education, etc.)
