Course content
Introduction to sociology and social anthropology, basic terminology; Social essence of human, socialization, day-to-day social interaction; Conformity and nonconforming behavior; Interpersonal communication and its problems; Social role, social groups, traditional and modern society; Social stratification, social status and mobility, social inequality; Social demography of the Czech society, family sociology; Job and modern society, problematics of unemployment; Poverty, marginalization and social exclusion; Sociology of knowledge, education and schools.

Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to introduce the fundamentals of sociology or social anthropology, as the case may be, which has many common features with sociology. The emphasis is on studying values, institutions, customs, and behavior formed under a social structure's influence. Students will gain the basics of sociological knowledge, a critical scientific perspective on the structure of modern society, and knowledge from separate fields of social life.
After passing the course students should be able to: - Explain the basic terminology of sociology, or social anthropology as the case may be, - describe and interpret (from the perspective of sociology/social anthropology) the fundamental theories of sociology, social organizations, and systems; - show the knowledge of the social interactions in regular life; - apply the knowledge of sociology/social anthropology in particular model situations/examples based on real life of a human as a member of society.

The presence in the lectures is recommended. Requirements for credit: choice of 1.) a suitable book concerning the particular topic of sociology - with student's analysis (minimum of 1 standard page A4); 2) a suitable video concerning the particular topic of sociology - with student's analysis (minimum of 1 standard page A4) - with precisely made bibliographic references. Requirements for an exam: a final paper concerning a student's choice from the list of topics "The chosen social problems of today." The final paper must include a minimum of 3 relevant domestic sources and three relevant foreign sources - in original (precisely made bibliographic references; minimum of 8 standard pages A4); its defence and classification.
