Course content
Annotation: The subject Fundamentals of education and special education is to (a) provide general introduction to pedagogy/education, basic terminology; (b) provide information about educational systems and principles of education; (c) introduce education through the life span (preschool, school education; adult education, education of elderly - gerontopedagogy); (d) describe and explain connections and interfaces of medical resort/physiotherapy and field of education; (e) create basic skills and knowledge to use assessment results in general and from physiotherapy checkout in development of individual educational plan; (f) prepare students to evaluate learning progress of student with special educational needs (SEN) and use outcomes of physiotherapy into school/educational system. Topics of lectures: 1. General introduction to education/pedagogy, special education, history and philosophy of (special) education. 2. Fundamental principles of education. 3. Educational systems in the Czech Republic, Europe and selected countries worldwide. 4. Disciplines of special education (sensory impairments, physical disability, intellectual disability, ADHD, psychiatric diagnosis, behavioral problems). 5. Comprehensive rehabilitation in special education 6. Legislation in special education 7. Education through the life span (preschool, school and adult education, senior education/gerontopedagogy). 8. Educational system in hospitals and spa treatment resorts and children with SEN (movement disability, CP clients), and health weaknesses and impairments. 9. Counseling in special education - definition, functions, and objectives. Theoretical background. Counselling system in the Czech Republic. 10. Counseling process, its principles and stages. Interventions. Counseling (a) general rules, (b) in area of special needs, (c) age differences. 11. The role of medical resort and physiotherapy experts in counselling system. Outcomes of physiotherapy in school/educational system. 12. Diagnostic approach, assessment of abilities and skills, assessment of social environment etc. and its use in school attendance in children with SEN (the role of physiotherapy, possible interfaces). 13. Evaluative strategies - in counseling, PE, school class, leisure time activities (the outcomes for physiotherapy). 14. Assessment of maturity, postponement of schooling; gifted children. 15. Self-evaluative techniques. 16. Counseling and assessment process in addictology (addiction, craving, etc.). Objectives: The student learns the basic principles of education and systems of education.

Objectives: The student learns the basic principles of education and systems of education.

Prerequisites
No specific knowledge is required. The course will acquaint with the basics and gradually expand the field of knowledge of the subject and application in physiotherapeutic practice.
