Course content
|
1. Counseling in special education - definition, functions, and objectives. Theoretical background. 2. Counseling process, its principles and stages. Interventions. Counseling (a) general rules, (b) in area of special needs, (c) age differences. 3. Counseling system in the Czech Republic. 4. Comparative studies in counseling systems. 5. Diagnostic approach, assessment of abilities and skills, assessment of social environment etc. 6. Assessment of special needs in adapted physical activities. 7. Evaluative strategies - in counseling, PE, school class, leisure time activities 8. PAPTECA model and counseling as its main umbrella term. 9. Different organizations and associations in counseling (early care, preschool children, career counseling, etc. 10. Assessment of maturity, postponement of schooling; gifted children. 11. Self evaluative techniques, effectiveness evaluation. 12. Assessment and individual educational plan. 13. Counseling and assessment process in addictology (addiction, craving, etc.).

Learning outcomes
|
Aim of the course is to a) provide information about counseling system(s) and its functioning, cooperation of professionals; (b) create basic skills and knowledge for entrance (input) assessment for all students in PE; (c) create basic skills and knowledge to use assessment results in development of individual educational plan; (d) prepare students to evaluate learning progress of student with special educational needs (SEN); (e) evaluate the suitability of the curriculum adaptations and the effectiveness of applied teaching strategies to students with SEN; (e) prepare students for collaboration with various relevant professionals.
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. Apply the knowledge of counselling and diagnostics in school practice or other areas (teacher or social worker); 2. Apply the information about all forms of counselling in a wide range of intervention (type of disability, age); 3. Understand the necessity for a supervision system in assistant professions, use preventive burnout syndrome strategies. 4. Use the information about basic diagnostic methods and their application; 5. Understand educational and teaching issues in work with children and perform rough classification; 6. Use the knowledge about counselling institutions and their work, especially in the diagnostic area.
