Course content

Diagnostics of most diseases is based on the synthesis of clinical and laboratory findings. Laboratory diagnostics is in most cases based on routine examination of full blood count and coagulation, that enable to narrow differential diagnostics or directly establish the working diagnosis. In routine praxis, this possibility is not used sufficiently due to the lack of knowledge necessary for blood count and coagulation interpretation. The aim of the topic is to discuss the most frequent abnormalities of all parts of blood count and coagulation with possibilities for their interpretation enabled by modern blood counters and coagulometers. All model situations will be demonstrated on case reports. Knowledge necessary in routine praxis is highlighted. The course is recommended for the students interested in practical and internal medicine and hematology.

Learning outcomes
|
The main aim of the course is to inform students about basic principles of interpretation of blood count and coagulation examination results that plays an important role in the diagnostics and differential diagnostics diseases of hematopoietic system and other conditions and diseases of other branches of medicine. Knowledge necessary in routine praxis is highlighted.
Improvement in orientation at diagnostics and differential diagnostics of blood diseases and other conditions associated with secondary changes in the blood count and coagulation results. Acquirement of skills for basic assessment of all parameters in blood count and coagulation in clinical praxis.
