Course content
1. Situation of Czech art at the turn of the 19th and the 20th century, Mařák´s school. 2. Myslbek´s school. 3. Character of the artistic group Osma, Bohumil Kubišta. 4. Character of the Skupina výtvarných umělců (Artists society), Otto Gutfreund. 5. Tvrdošíjní and the wave of neorealism in Czech art of the twenties. 6. Devětsil and artificialism, Jindřich Štyrský a Toyen. 7. Czech Surrealism between world wars. 8. Štursa´s school. 9. The development of Czech art during the Second World War, The artistic groups Sedm v říjnu, Skupina 42 and RA.

Learning outcomes
One-semester cycle of lectures provides a lucid outline of the specific development of Czech painting and sculpture in the first half of the 20th century. Change in opinion of artistic creation are observed both in the context of the history of socio-political and cultural changes in the Czech lands as well as in the broader context of historical events in the 20th century.
Basic knowledge of the trends of painting and sculpture in the Czech Republic in the period from turn of 19th and 20 century to the end of the Second World War.
Prerequisites
Ending the first year of the bachelor degree.
