Course content
1. Formation of principles of new style in mannerism and protobarocco: Raffael, Michelangelo, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Barocci. 2. The first impulses of the new 17th century style: Carracci and Caravaggio. 3. Carraccists and Caravaggists in Rome. The origin of the Baroque. 4. Peter Paul Rubens, Bamboccianti. 5. Nicoas Poussin a Claude Gellée known as Lorrain 6. Pietro Berrettini da Cortona 7. Lodovico Cardi known as Cigoli 8. Giovanni Francesco Barbieri known as Guercino 9. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course for bachelor students is to explain the principles of Baroque painting in the very center of its development with the participation of Italian and foreign artists, who from various stylish and thought sources gradually shaped the thematic, formal and semantic forms of 17th century painting style.
Acquired ability to understand the detailed knowledge of Baroque painting in Rome.
Prerequisites
Expert interest in detailed knowledge of Baroque painting on the Apennine Peninsula.

Student performance

Attendance at seminars and lectures, participation in class discussions, translations of specialized literature from English.
