Course content
i. origin of the Austronesian settlement of Taiwan ii. Austronesian population during the 16th-19th century iii. Social movements during the 20th century iv. Material culture v. Austronesian literary tradition and its infuence on Modern Taiwanese literature vi. The role the Taiwanese Austronesians in the construction of modern Taiwanese identity

Learning outcomes
The course covers a range of topics pertaining to the Austronesian population of Taiwan. It combines lectures by the instructor with discussions of required readings.
