Course content
The main attention is also paid to cytogenetic aspect of gametes differentiation and embryogenesis. Integral part of the course is an introduction to students with applications of biotechnologies in recent crop breeding. - Introduction, primary division of plant reproduction - Evolution of the plant reproduction - Development of reproduction organs and gametes - Development and differentiation of plant embryos, development of seeds and fruits - Cytological, epigenetic and genetic aspects of gametes production and embryogenesis - Biotechnology in the plant reproduction - Application of biotechnologies in crop breeding - Somatic embryogenesis, androgenesis, protoplasts differentiation - Cytogenetic aspects of biotechnological methods in plant reproduction - Somatic hybridization, allo- and pollyploids, genomic stress - Methods used in study of reproduction biology

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Projection (static, dynamic)
  • Attendace - 2 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
Aim of this course is to introduce to students the evolution and ontogenetic development of reproduction organs and gametes.
Student should be able to (after attending the course): - describe the evolution and ontogenetic development of reproduction organs and gametes - explain cytogenetic aspect of gametes differentiation and embryogenesi - describe applications of biotechnologies in recent crop breeding
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of plant anatomy, ecology and developmental biology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

Oral exam: three questions a) general characteristics of evolution of reproduction organs and gametes b) overview of ontogenetic development of reproduction organs and gametes and cytogenetics c) overview of used biotechnologies in crop breeding
