Course content
The course introduces selected cultural traditions and customs of ethnic groups living in Vietnam. It will focus on selected ethnic groups from 54 officially recognized minorities living in the VSR. It characterizes the linguistic and ethnological classification and describes selected characteristic realities. Content 1. Ethnic map of Vietnam, linguistic and ethnological classification 2. Composition of national minorities and presentation of their customary specifics 3. National minorities in northern Vietnam. 4. National minorities in central Vietnam and the Tay Nguyen region 5. National minorities in southern Vietnam 6. Cham and modern society 7. Khmers in Vietnam 8. Chinese in Vietnam 9. National policy of VSR 10. Tradition vs. Modern society

Learning outcomes
The course introduces selected cultural traditions and customs of ethnic groups living in Vietnam.
Students will gain a general overview of the history, culture and traditions of national minorities living in Vietnam. They are familiar with related issues, they are better able to interpret Vietnamese society.

There are no prerequisites for the course.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam, Student performance, Written exam

The mark will be awarded on the basis of: a) active participation in classes - 20% b) reading of entered texts - 30% c) written test - 20% d) oral exam - 30%
