To a greater extent, the course focuses on the Taiwanese colonial past (European, Japanese) and relations with mainland China (Qing, the emergence of the Republic of China, relations with the People's Republic of China). The analysis of historical and political discourse also discusses the current issue of Taiwan's international status.
This course offers an insight into the history and present of Taiwan. Students will be able to understand the complexity of relations with the People's Republic of China and the specifics of Taiwanese identity.
