Course content
Analysis of organic compounds Sample characterization, sampling, preparatory operations, drying, purity characterization, appearance examination. Physico-chemical constants (melting point, boiling point, density, refractive index, specific rotation, solubility, partition coefficient) and their relations to the chemical structure. Instrumental methods of chemical analysis - spectrometric methods (UV-Vis spectrometry, infrared spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, optical rotary dispersion), electrochemical methods (voltammetry, coulometry) separation methods (extraction, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, electrophoresis, isotachophoresis). Organic elemental analysis. Principles and techniques of proofs, identification and determination of organic compounds and their mixtures. General principles of classical methods of organic analysis. Titrations in non-aqueous media. Proof and determination of functional groups - hydrocarbons, hydroxycompounds, carbonylcompounds, carboxylic acids and their functional derivatives, nitrogen containing compounds, sulphur containing compounds, halogen containing compounds, selected polyfunctional derivatives. Instrumental methods and their application for particular groups of organic compounds. Analytical derivatization.
