Course content
Introduction to optical atomic spectrometry. Spectral line - width and intensity. Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS): principle, instrumentation, specific and nonspecific absorption, background correction systems. Flame atomization - structure of flame, nebulizers, interferences. Electrothermal atomization - material of atomizers, atomization process, temperature (STPF, LHGA, THGA), sampling, interferences. Hydride generation in AAS - generation and atomization techniques, interferences. Atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Dispersion elements used in atomic spectrometers - monochromators and polychromators. Optical emission spectrometry (OES): sources used in OES, origination of spectra. Spark and arc discharges, plasma spectrometry, flame photometry. ICP-OES: plasma torch, instrumentation, excitation mechanisms, optimization, sample introduction. Inorganic mass spectrometry: ICP-MS, SIMS, GD-MS. X-ray radiation and its characterization. X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, PIXE, Auger's electron spectrometry.

The aim is to acquaint with methods of atomic spectrometry.
Define main concepts, describe main approaches in the field of atomic absorption spectrometry
Prerequisites
The knowledge of basics of analytical chemistry and instrumental methods of analytical chemistry is recommended.
