Medical Technology in Physiotherapy introduces medical devices and assistive technologies used in rehabilitation to improve or maintain functional capacity, compensate for impaired functions, and support patient participation in daily life. The course focuses on orthotics, prosthetics, assistive devices, calceotics, and contemporary digital health technologies, including tele-rehabilitation systems, wearable sensors, AI-supported assessment and monitoring tools, and robotic technologies in rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, evidence-based selection of technologies, patient-centered care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical reflection on the benefits, limitations, and ethical aspects of medical technology in physiotherapy practice, including expert insights from clinical robotics practice.
After completing the course, the student: -understands the main categories of medical devices and assistive technologies used in physiotherapy practice -is able to assess indications, contraindications, and appropriateness of medical technologies for individual patients based on clinical reasoning -critically evaluates the effectiveness and limitations of medical devices using principles of evidence-based practice -understands the role of the physiotherapist within interdisciplinary collaboration related to medical technology -is oriented in current trends in digital health, tele-rehabilitation, AI-supported tools, and robotic technologies in rehabilitation
