Learning outcomes
The lecture series introduces students to the earliest Ukrainian literature of the 10th-14th centuries. The main theme of the series is epic chronicles, which contain a variety of genres - short stories, tales, chronological accounts, etc. The importance of the translated works is not overlooked. We trace the development of ecclesiastical literature. Furthermore, the study deals with the European significance of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and its contribution to Ukraine.
Students will understand the features of separate emerging styles in Ukrainian literature, the themes in the earliest Ukrainian literature, beginnings of Ukrainian drama and the significance of brethren schools and philosophical tractates.
Prerequisites
An ability to read and interpret Ukrainian literary text.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Regular fulfilling of the assigned tasks, reading the assigned texts, awareness of the European context of Ukrainian literature, passing the credit test.
