The plan for the 13 weeks: I Anthroponomy in Ukrainian. Male and female names and patronymics. Basic declension. II Gender of nouns. Declension of feminine nouns. III Gender of nouns. Declension of masculine nouns. IV Gender of nouns. Declension of neuter nouns. V Agreements between nouns and adjectives, pronouns and numerals. VI Motion of female names in Ukrainian. VII Semantic categories of nouns. VIII Number of nouns. Pluralia tantum in Ukrainian. IX Semantic categories of nouns. X Declension of adjectives. XI Semantic categories of adjectives. XII Gradation of adjectives. XIII Test with exercises.

After completing this intensive course on Ukrainian grammar the students of the 1st year shall be able to understand the phonetic and graphic system of Ukrainian, to build correct simple clause constructions which are used in everyday speech, to build constructions with adverbials of time, place and mode, to build positive as well as negative sentences, to differentiate the gender of nouns etc. The aim of this course is to enable the students to acquire basic vocabulary, especially the words of everyday use. The second part of this course is focused on further development of the knowledge gained in the previous course, i.e. we shall exercises pronunciation and oral and written speech production. All the material to be discussed during the course will be summed up in written exercises and discussion.
An ability to create paradigms of nouns and adjectives in written and oral use. Correct pronunciation of nominal constructions. |

Oral exam, Written exam
Regular active participation, max. 2 absences, fulfilling the tasks assigned for each lesson, consulting dictionaries and other literature, searching for answers to difficult questions, following the current trends in language, active participation in discussion. A written test on morphological features and forms of autosemantic parts of speech. Understanding the rules for interpunction. |
