Learning outcomes
The seminar focuses on the phenomenon of Russian emigration in the 20th and 21st centuries with an emphasis on social and cultural-historical contexts. In particular, the specificity of individual waves and emigration centres in Europe will be reflected. A significant part of the course will be devoted to Russian emigration during the Russian-Ukrainian War ('fifth wave' and the phenomenon of so-called hybrid emigration). Emphasis will also be placed on Russian emigration in Czechoslovakia in the 20th century and the Czech Republic in the 21st century.
Based on the discipline, students will understand the phenomenon of Russian emigration in the 20th and 21st centuries from both a macro perspective (political context in Russia and the world, financial and institutional support) and a micro perspective (individual reflection on emigration). The student will also gain insight into the interaction of emigrants with the societies of the receiving countries.
Prerequisites
The course is meant for all students interested in Russian literature and culture.
