This course will cover the topic of translation methods from theoretical and practical point of view by translating literary texts.

| Learning outcomes |
|
The seminar introduces the basics of translating artistic texts. It is aimed at developing the ability to analyse a literary text, to understand its specificity and to acquire literary translation methods. It also introduces sub-topics in the field of literary translation, such as: translation of the title of a literary text, translation of character names (literary onomastics), translation of specific expressive language, dialects, slangs, general Czech, etc. It also introduces to the work of a translator and the process of translation from the decision to translate a selected text to its publication as a book.
To be able to analyze a literary text, understand its specific features and translate it from a source language in the target language. |

Seminar Work
Submission of partial written assignments on time, 80% attendance at seminars. Student´s submission and presentation of his/her own translation of at least 5 NS. |
