Course content
|
This is an optative course, offered within a module 2b) Interdisciplinary courses for both students of doctoral study program Romance Languages and students of other doctoral programs. It emphases interdisciplinary approach and accessibility for non-specialists (non-romanists , non-linguists). It will be devoted to the following topics: - The current situation of the Romance languages in the world and the current language situation in countries where Romance languages are spoken. Language policy in these countries. The issue of language policy and language management in general. - Bilingualism, multilingualism and diglossia in society. Basic concepts of sociology of language, language prestige, language and speech community. Examples from Romanesque world. - Languages in contact and consequences of language contact. The issue of language death, language atrophy. Language ecology. Rescuing endangered languages. Examples from Romanesque world. - Pigeon and creole languages based on French, Portuguese and Spanish.

Learning outcomes
|
To expand the knowledge of students' of doctoral study program Romance Languages and of other study program on some chapters of the Romance languages linguistics with an emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach.
A better understanding of the topics of the course, a better knowledge of general linguistics terminology.
