Course content
|
Introduction into the Latin Middle Ages with a survey of the field of Medieval Latin Studies, bibliographical and lexicological information. During the lessons a selection of Latin medieval texts will be read.

Learning outcomes
|
Introduction into the philology and literature of the Latin Middle Ages including basic information on Latin Medievalistics, bibliographical and lexicological information. Special attention is vowed to the situation in Central Europe, especially in the Lands of the Bohemian Crown. The course contains practical lecture and analysis of selected Medieval texts.
The student will get a survey of Latin Middle Ages, of basic literature in the field and of the development of Medieval Latin as a linguistic phenomena since late Antiquity. The student will be able to translate medieval texts.

Prerequisites
|
Knowledge of Latin at the level after having finished the propedeutic phase. Basic knowledge of classical Latin literature is recommended.
