Course content
The term research paper is an unscheduled subject, i.e., it does not require class attendance. Students work independently; if necessary, they can consult with one of the teachers during consultation hours or at another time by arrangement. Students choose their own topic, but they must consult their plan with one of the teachers as early as possible during September and October. When writing the paper, it is necessary to use academic literature, i.e., scientific publications, articles, reference works, dictionaries, and at least 5 publications. The paper must not be a mere compilation, but must actively use an ancient source as the primary point of argumentation and contain a research question. Seminar papers must include footnotes using the history department's footnote citation style, but consistently throughout the text and and a formal structure. More information, tips, and deadlines are in the Moodle course. Completion of the course is not only a submitted text, but also a colloquium during the exam period, where students present their work and answer any questions.
