The course "On Maintaining Good Health." Selected Chapters from the History of Early Modern Medicine will focus on selected aspects of the history of early modern medicine. The main content of the course is the introduction of various methodological approaches and topics related to the concepts of health, disease, body, to the development of medical theories and the medical practice in the early modern period. Emphasis will be placed on work with contemporary texts and relevant secondary literature. Active participation of students in the discussions is expected.
The student will improve his/her knowledge of the history of the early modern period and will enrich it with further various social, cultural and gender aspects. He/she will learn how to work with contemporary sources and relevant secondary literature related to topics from the history of medicine of the discussed period accentuated from various angles. He/she will apply the acquired knowledge by preparing his/her presentation and by discussions at the course. |
