Learning outcomes
The lecture, combined with a seminar component, introduces students to radio and podcast genres, auditory creative genres, and hybrid genres that intersect with audiovisual and new media. It explains key terminology and concepts related to linear broadcasting (such as radio program, format, block, flow, show, and genre) and explores current podcasting platforms and their various forms. The lecture also familiarizes students with the theory of individual components of radio and how they function across different genres. Major radio creators are introduced, and the lecture is accompanied by numerous audio samples. The course includes home assignments: individual listening to examples from different genres, answering a brief Moodle question before the in-person session, and studying required texts. This is followed by shared listening to selected excerpts and collective analytical discussions. For this reason, the scope of the course is adjusted to prioritize analytical discussions of radio samples, the acquisition of terminology, and the development of argumentation skills. Due to the combined format of lecture and seminar, in-person attendance and active student participation are required.
