Learning outcomes
The methodological seminar introduces students to the basic aspects of the relationship between cultural theatre institutions and the public or their audiences. Theoretical knowledge of cultural dramaturgy and the functioning of theatrical institutions is combined with methods of reaching audiences, with an emphasis on institutional analysis and the study of so-called production culture and how cultural provision relates to the democratisation of culture or cultural exclusion. This is not a conventional marketing needs analysis, but a reflection on the institutionalised cultural mechanisms in organisational culture. The course thus provides tools for further development in compulsory electives such as cultural management. Students will also experience the preparation of a script for a chosen production and learn the basic methods of theatre lecturing.
Learners will gain a basic understanding of the repertoire of cultural organizations to develop audiences. They will learn about institutional theory of art, the concept of critical art institutions and cultural democracy. They will acquire basic skills in connection with cultural dramaturgy and theatre lecturing.
