Course content
|
CONTENT (13 teaching hours / 25 hours of attendance): Introduction to the topic, cultural policy outside major centers, seminar overview Clarifying terminology, discourses, and structures of local culture outside cultural hubs Who are the cultural actors? Typologies, roles, relationships with local government Cultural policy in the local context - how it emerges, who shapes it, how it is implemented in practice (strategies, grant programs, staffing), and how it can be influenced Case study example from Vysoké nad Jizerou - sharing field experience Workshop: formulating research questions Interview methodology (principles, ethics, role of the interviewer) and interview training in pairs Fieldwork preparation - choosing the location and actors (independently outside class) Conducting first interviews (independently outside class) Reflection on the first interviews, sharing experiences Conducting second interviews (independently outside class) Reflection on the second interviews, sharing experiences Basics of thematic analysis and data coding Attempt at collaborative coding / identifying patterns in interviews Preparation of a short case study Sharing case studies, proposal of outcomes Final reflection, preparation for public presentation Individual consultations will be available throughout the course based on agreement.

Learning outcomes
|
- Introduce students to cultural policy outside of major centers, including its actors and instruments. - Help students acquire basic methods of qualitative research (interviewing, coding, case study). - Enable students to experience research in practice and develop skills for both independent and team work. - Support the development of collective reflection on the relationship between culture and local governance based on interview data.
Student will obtain the experience and the prerequisites in the real work of the different fields in living culture. He will understand some of specific process in this area and hi will know the professional terminology. At last but not least he could gain the important contacts necessary for finding the next job or internship.

Prerequisites
|
Basic orientation in the social sciences and an interest in cultural topics. Knowledge of terminology in the field of cultural policy and management is an advantage.

Active participation in seminars. Conducting at least one semi-structured interview. Reflection on the interview / work with the transcript. Participating in the joint sharing of outputs.
