Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the fundamental heuristic and epistemological methods and strategies essential for working with materials in historical theatre studies. It will gradually explore and apply key approaches to investigating earlier layers of theatre and performance culture, including topics such as the relationship between text and performance and the interdisciplinary connections relevant to the field.
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to critically engage with various types of sources, including oral history, and will understand the plurality of historical narratives. They will gain insight into the relationship between historical material and theoretical frameworks and develop an understanding of methodological distinctions among theatre studies, literary theory, and performance studies. The student will become familiar with the foundations of cognitive approaches to theatre and will learn to interpret theatre within broader cultural, social, and religious contexts.
