Course content
|
The course introduces current trends in radio studies as an academic field, the radio and podcasting industry as a media sector interconnected with the cultural and creative industries, and contemporary practices of creation in radio, podcasts, and audio culture more broadly. The form and content of individual sessions are strongly shaped by the activity and research of students. The course also includes a Student Conference, which generates topics for seminar papers and potential subsequent publications. The topics for the winter semester 2025 are updated in relation to the Radio and Sound Conference (ECREA) as well as the Prix Bohemia Radio 2025 and Prix Europa 2025 festivals. Podcasting: Narration, Genres, and Innovations Transmediality and Platformization as Emerging Phenomena in Podcasting Voice as Carrier of Identity (Sonic Self) and the Construction of the Self in Listening Embodied Listening, Soundwalking, and the Phenomenon of Walking in the Context of Auditory Perception Radio and Audiobook Biographies: Intersections of Radio Drama and Life-Writing Radio as a Tool of Resistance and Activism; Audio Ecology, Crises, and Threats Automated and AI-Generated Audio and the Influence of Algorithms on Distribution and Discovery Hybrid Formats: Audiowalks, Audio Plays, Binaural Sound Sessions dedicated to the Student Conference

Learning outcomes
|
The course combines a lecture and a seminar form of participation as well as reading academic papers about auditory creation. The aim of the course is focused on contemporary radio trends, internet creations included.
A graduate knows of contemporary trends of radio production, s/he is able to define specifics of radio artifact and orientates well enough in typology of radio genres, radio creators and history of radio broadcasting.

Prerequisites
|
Students need to successfully complete The Introduction to Radio Studies course and to adopt an academic terminology from Radio studies.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Analysis of linguistic, Seminar Work, Final project
A student attends the course. S/he is able to deliver position papers due time (the answer to a question asked included), reads mandatory academic papers, listens to auditive program, works with Czech and English scripts and presents his/hers part of topics.
