Course content
Basic approaches to art history in the first half of the 20th century - the Vienna School, iconology, psychology, formalism New art history, deconstruction, and poststructuralist criticism DU. Archive of knowledge, archaeology of art history Feminism - against patriarchal society. Representation - Body - Postcolonialism Aura, copy, simulacrum, appropriation Semiotics - the study of the creation of meaning through signs Visual studies, visual turn (in Anglo-American DU), Bildwissenschaft, French image theory The viewer, reception Digital image, digital entertainment New cultural history, cultural anthropology Theory of vision, psychology of perception, cognitive sciences Czech historiography of art

Learning outcomes
The aim of the seminar is to develop the ability to read critically a scholarly English text and to introduce students to key texts in 20th century art history, especially current trends in Anglo-American art. Text selections include texts in methodology, art history, visual culture, cultural studies, and art theory and criticism. Part of the course will be devoted to historiography of Czech art history.
Students will gain a deeper understanding of 20th-century methodology and current trends in thinking and writing about art, and will deepen their critical thinking about texts representing different approaches.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of English, basic knowledge of German.

Analysis of linguistic, Dialog

Continuous reading of literature (e-learning texts) from lesson to lesson, discussion of texts, active participation in class. Advanced reading in English or German.
