1. Introduction to the theory and history of restoration 2. Introduction to the theory and history of connoseirship 3. Key European and global institutions and international conventions in the field of restoration 4. Monument restoration and conservation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, legislative and ethical frameworks for monument restoration 5. Principles of restoration, documentation of restoration interventions and handling of art objects 6. Diagnostics of works of art - introduction and principles 7. Diagnostics of works of art - imaging methods based on X-ray radiation 8. Diagnostics of works of art - imaging using the ultraviolet and infrared parts of the electromagnetic spectrum 9. Reintegration of paintings 10. Restoration of wooden works and their polychromy 11. Strappo and stacco techniques for transferring wall paintings 12. Analysis of a selected restoration intervention

Learning outcomes
|
The course offers an overview of the theory and practice of restoration and conservation interventions on movable cultural monuments and artistic architectural components. Students will learn about the current legislation that regulates these interventions in cultural monuments, about key institutions in the field of conservation and restoration, international conventions and ethical standards of monument restoration. The lecturing will also focus on developing students' abilities to diagnose the technical condition of art-historical monuments and the possibilities of their preventive conservation.

Assessment methods and criteria
