Course content
Topics covered include: - Introductions & intercultural exchange - Academic and work-related conversations - Socialising, making plans, and invitations - Shopping, banking, and solving everyday problems - Food and eating out - Expressing opinions and participating in debates - Reading articles and writing emails - Describing places and giving directions - Storytelling and personal experiences - Dealing with complaints and customer service - Presentations and teamwork Grammar focus includes: - Present and past tenses (simple, continuous, perfect) - Future forms and making suggestions - Modal verbs (advice, necessity, deduction) - Conditionals (0-3) - Question formation and indirect questions - Comparative and superlative structures - Relative clauses and linking expressions - Formal vs informal language in writing Vocabulary development is integrated into each topic area, focusing on functional language, phrasal verbs, and collocations relevant to everyday student life.

Learning outcomes
This 13-week course is designed for international exchange students at the B1+ level who wish to improve their everyday English communication skills for both academic and social contexts. Through practical activities and real-life scenarios, students will develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English.
By the end of this course, students will be able to: 1. Communicate effectively in everyday academic and social contexts, including introductions, making plans, giving directions, and participating in discussions. 2. Engage confidently in intercultural exchanges, adapting language and tone appropriately for different social and academic settings. 3. Express opinions and arguments clearly, and participate constructively in debates, teamwork, and presentations. 4. Read and understand short articles, announcements, and other practical texts relevant to student life. 5. Write clear and well-structured emails and messages, demonstrating awareness of formal and informal registers. 6. Apply a range of grammatical structures accurately, including verb tenses, future forms, modal verbs, conditionals, question forms, and relative clauses. 7. Use appropriate vocabulary, phrasal verbs, and collocations for everyday communication, academic discussions, and problem-solving situations. 8. Tell stories and share personal experiences in an engaging and coherent way. 9. Handle common service-related interactions such as making complaints, resolving issues, and requesting assistance. 10. Demonstrate improved fluency, accuracy, and confidence in spoken and written English for both academic study and daily life.
Prerequisites
English on level B1 is minimum. B1+ is an advantage.
